The exact origins of the temple are unknown, but it is believed that the temple was built towards the end of the Ayutthaya Period. During that time in Thai history, many temples were ransacked and burned to the ground; Wat Muang was one of them. It wasn’t until 1982 that reconstruction of the temple began, and in 1991, a new Buddha image was sculpted. , Luang Por Toh Buddha image of Wat Muang is the biggest in the world. In 2007, the temple was finally completed. It took 16 years and 131 million baht to reconstruct the temple in its entirety.
